INFO: This page is for write-in interviews with HU/HA creators (or dedicated fans)! The idea originally came from my wanting to include some interviews with the print issues, and I thought a convenient and open way to do this would be to create this write-in page, where everybody can add questions and their own answers. Questions are grouped into "basic" and "optional" - basic questions should be answered by everyone who chooses to give an interview. More answers can be added to individual interviews at any time. (Also, your adding an interview here means that you're okay with it being used in printed HA issues/books.) - Abt Nihil

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name's Jo, I'm a PhD student at the intersection of philosophy and neuroscience. I was born near Munich and am now living downtown. I've loved reading and making comics ever since I was a kid - my mother used to be a librarian and brought me comics early on. My first webcomic was "A.D 1997", which I started uploading at smackjeeves in 2006, before coming to drunkduck and starting "signifikat" and "Bombshell" in 2007 and "Holon" in 2010.

How did the HUniverse come to your attention, and how did you first get involved with it?

Luckily, I had met Nepath on smackjeeves, where he'd started his comic "Energize", which was the nucleus of the HUniverse. When we both migrated to drunkduck, Nepath asked me whether I'd like to be part of the first chapter of Heroes Unite. I'd never made a superhero comic before, but I'd considered starting one numerous times, so I figured this was a great chance!

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

When I learned which characters were part of the original line-up of the first (self-titled) "Heroes Unite" story, they lacked a female character, so I created Bombshell. While I actually came up with her as a direct response to Nepath's invitation, she is a character I'd somehow always wanted to create, and Heroes Unite was the catalyst for her creation. Bombshell is strong, fierce, independent and smart, and while I hadn't created her with the intention of her becoming a lead character, it turned out to be very convenient that she had these attributes when she became an inofficial leader of HA. The fact that I got to stick around for so long - eventually helming the "Heroes Alliance" community project - gave me the chance to situate her in a key position, and I'm very happy that I can continue to keep her at the center of the action.

I've also created some minor characters who will hopefully get the chance to take the spotlight sometime. Characters who play a larger role are Archangel and Fury, who caused some trouble for the HU Initiative in "HU: Fury", and who've just been introduced to HA as part of the R.I.S.E. team. Also, I recently created the leader of R.I.S.E., Cobalt, who is a very mysterious figure. And I also had a hand in developing the role and design of the former HU Commander, Natasha Lawler. Oh, and I got to sort of "resurrect" an old character of mine, from an abandoned comic - a giant, um, "patriotic" robot called "U.N.C.A. S.A.M." -, and introduce him to the HUniverse in "HU: EGO", which was a lot of fun.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HUniverse history and why?

It's hard to say, but I think it would have to be Natasha Lawler's breakdown in HA #6, and her scene with Bombshell. That's been a long time coming, it was very emotional and it brings a lot into focus of what's been brewing in the HUniverse in one single moment.

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see? The crazier and/or more epic, the better!

Hm, this one's not too crazy I guess, but I'd love to see something that's been talked about for a while: a team consisting solely of the younger HUniverse heroes, like Comet Kid, Azumorph, Wireless, Mr Imp, and the two "orphaned skidekicks" from HA #1 and #3, Clockwork and Kaleidoskop (jr.). Also, throwing Tom Finn into the mix (the snot-nosed brat who controls U.N.C.A. S.A.M.) should be fun.

What did you enjoy the most while working on HU or HA?

Expanding the universe and working together with different creators is undoubtedly the best. For example, when I organized my first chapter, HU: EGO, I contacted Tempest Lavalle, whose previous work on her webcomic "The Girl Next Door" I'd been enjoying immensely. I had no idea she would respond as favourably as she did - I mean, I had no idea she was into superheroes - so her enthusiastic reponse was a wonderful surprise. If I remember correctly, she had created Vora only recently, but didn't have her appear in a comic yet. Vora turned into one of the most prolific characters on HU and HA (and one of my personal favorites). Plus, Vora's adoration of Shell is so precious! So, I subsequently tried to do this as often as I could - to get to collaborate with creators whose work I loved, such as alejkhan or PIT_FACE, and too many others to mention...

Which HU character would you least like to be locked in a room with?

Bones. The guy smells.

Genejoke[]

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Alex and I'm from the south of England. I've been doing webcomics a few years now and enjoy flexing my creative muscles where I can.

How did the HUniverse come to your attention, and how did you first get involved with it?

That's a good question, I remember seeing it around on drunkduck but didn't really pay any attention to it. I was very bored of super heroes at that point and it held no interest. I first read it for another purpse, the drunkduck awards I believe. I became involved through another contributer, Shastab24 who worked on a very ambitious script for it. I did a page or two for that and liked playing in someone else's toybox.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HUniverse history and why?

It would have to the the epic transgender wedding story by Shastab24. i like that it was a small and simple plot with so many characters. Narratively it was flawed, but it showed the scale of what has been created.

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

Uh, none... yet. watch this space. Well not this space...

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see? The crazier and/or more epic, the better.

Heroes Alliance meets the Hero Factor. The Hero Factor is a reality TV show to find new super heroes. Find it on drunkduck. Yeah I went there.

Who are your favorite characters to draw in the HUniverse?

I haven't drawn many yet, but I'd like to draw some Peligroso.

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I'm Joshua, a psychology student, artist and writer from the Southeastern United States. I've been drawing comics since I was eight years old and apparently been on Drunkduck since it started. My first published webcomic was Wintergreen: Heroes of Digital Rock, which I'm still working with. My first actual drawn webcomic was the first pages of Raiza Fall. Comet Kid however is a character I'd been drawing since I was eight years old.

How did the HUniverse come to your attention, and how did you first get involved with it?

A bunch of artists I was fans of collaborated on a super cool comic and I was like, "woah!" Then, when they asked for characters for a sequel, I was like "I gotta get in on that action." When it got to Heroes Alliance, I ended up contributing a lot of ideas myself.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HUniverse history and why?

Ego impressed me. The first time there was that amount of characters, and the way they were handled was impressive. Also, the scale at which they were working on was really cool.

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

Comet Kid is my baby. He's been my go to superhero since I still had baby teeth. He used to be a straight up Superboy Expy with Superman's origin except Planet X swapped for Krypton until I thought the better of it. He was not inspired by Beast Boy or Andy Martinez/Comet from DC Comics despite how it seems, but kinda gets some cues from 90's Superboy and Marco from Animorphs.

Tech/Thunder-Cat Jr. was kinda my take on Robin to my Black Knight's Batman. He's much more Tim Drake-y as he takes everything seriously and is a gadget head and leader guy. His character is kinda a type I draw and write. Kinda an exasperated black kid with glasses. It's starting to become a signature.

Blitz is Blitz. She goes fast. She gets stronger and more invulnerable based on her speed. I think it's a nice twist on simple super-speed and it makes super-strength and invulnerability more interesting when you can only use them at super-fast speeds. Also, her origin or lack of it is a reference to inexplicable magic lightning that seems to ravage comic book universes.

Then there is the villains. Motherboard is pretty straightforward. She's kinda like a techno-Venom from Spider-Man. I like the idea of a villain keeping a monster in check by convincing it to commit petty crimes, so she's kind of a hero of her own story, keeping her nano-symbiote from conquering earth by keeping it focused on short term goals. Crime Warp and the Delegation of Hurt are strictly fun villains. I like comics that don't take themselves too seriously and I like villains that can either be a joke or a threat depending on the situation! Also, I like drawing dudes with objects for heads. It's funny. Ecotist is pretty clearly Captain Planet. He's kinda a foil to Comet Kid since he's hugely powerful and a fanboy. It was only touched on that one panel, so whatevs.

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see? The crazier and/or more epic, the better!

I liked that idea about time traveling. I want to make that idea about Time Travel. When I get time, I should write it.

What did you enjoy the most while working on HU or HA?

Seeing everyone else draw my characters and laugh at my stupid jokes, honestly. Also, seeing tons of people so excited about exchanging ideas! Creativity is rad to the max!

Who are your favorite characters to write in the HUniverse?

Well, of course Comet Kid, duh. The Delegation of Hurt too. In terms of other people's characters, I really like writing Vora and Shell. Imp and Azumorph are pretty fun too.

Irrevenant[]

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I'm Australian and I've been a fan of comics for a long time.

One book title summarised comics as "drawing words, writing pictures" and that's a great way to describe them - a medium that not only uses both words and pictures but also combines them in ways that would be impossible in any other medium.  Of course, it helps that they tell some great stories, too. ;)

Art in general is something that has always amazed me but it's only fairly recently that I've stopped thinking of it as something done by "those impressive artist types" and realised it's something that anyone can do - admittedly, not very well in the beginning. xD I see so many things wrong with every thing I draw or colour, but I also get slightly better with each one and that's really inspiring! :D  If I can do it, anyone can.

I... think I might've wandered into answering a completely different question there. xD

How did the HUniverse come to your attention, and how did you first get involved with it?

As a reader, I'd been reading Acrobat for some time. I followed his appearance in the original Heroes Unite, went and it snowballed from there until I was reading HU, Energize, Bombshell, SHELL, Relik... you name it.  I *still* can't find a copy of the Hellfire comic, though. :(

I first got involved as a contributor by submitting an entry to Heroes Alliance : Monthly Mayhem - an art challenge webcomic with a different theme each month. I was a novice artist (still am, though better than I was) and never considered contributing art to HU or HA. But I'm decent with graphics software and when someone needed some existing linear coloured, I figured hey, I could give that a go! I didn't really know what I was doing (still don't, really. Are you sensing a theme, yet? :P) but it came out quite well and people seemed to like it. It helped a lot that it was really good lineart - thanks, CDMalcolm  :)).

That gave me the nudge to start my own (totally not stalled, honest. >_>) webcomic, and then start contributing pages to Heroes Alliance.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HUniverse history and why?

My most memorable moments were the personal ones: The first HA page that I coloured (in HA #7) and my first full page (in HA #9) were big personal milestones.

An in-universe moment that stood out for me was Heroes Unite: EGO. Starring seventeen heroes from a dozen different creators, this was the first issue that really gave an idea how big the HUniverse could be.

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

None yet. But I'm not going to stop pushing for my dude, Chaos to make an appearance. :D  At the moment it's looking like he'll make a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in HA #11 or #12 and be a bigger presence in HA Season 2 and Solarcell).

A couple of villains I created will be popping up in future issues too, cross-fingers.

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see? The crazier and/or more epic, the better!

I actually think it would be really interesting to do a totally non-epic story featuring what the heroes get up to in their quiet time when they're not busy saving the world (I personally have Peligroso pegged as a closet knitter. ;) ).

Crossover-wise, Bad Guy High would be fun and I'd love to see Bombshell and Mind Mistress butt heads sometime.

And obviously I'd love to see a HA team-up with Chaos. ;)  He's a street-level vigilante hero so it'd be interesting to see his take on working alongside the awe-inspiring powerhouses of HA.

What did you enjoy the most while working on HU or HA?

The collaborative nature of the whole thing is great (even if the others do sometimes fail to realise that I'm right about everything!). I love that every page I do is just that tiny bit better than the one before. And I love seeing how something I did fits in with everyone else's work to for such a large whole.  Even as part of the community it's still a surprise how things turn out sometimes.

Another thing I love about working on HA (and about creating comics in general) is that it's so diverse and interrelated.  One day you can be colouring someone else's art, then drawing your own the next, then writing scripts or creating characters...  Even something as apparently simple as drawing a single page is fascinatingly complex: How do you lay out the panels? Which 'camera angles' work best for this particular shot?  How and where do you integrate the dialogue? etc.

Which HUniverse character would you least like to be locked in a room with?

I'm gonna say Thrawn. Firstly I'm not even sure there's space on that room for the two of us, and it gets worse from there. *shudders*

Fury seems like a nice lady, but being locked in a room I'm guessing she'd be pretty tense and things would quickly get very hot - and not in a good way!

Being stuck in a locked room with a bored Mr Imp is a close third. O_O

Who is your favourite character to write in the HUniverse?

I tend to enjoy the interaction between characters more than any one specific character.  I've had very little chance to write HUniverse characters but I recently wrote a script with an ongoing interplay between SHELL and Relik. That was a lot of fun to write.

Who is your favourite character to draw in the HUniverse?

I've only had the chance to draw a few characters at this point (mostly Bones for some reason - in five pages I've drawn Bones eighteen times. O_O).  I'm happy to draw anyone (though at this precise point in time I'd say "preferably characters who don't wear ammunition belts that take forever to draw and colour" xD).

If I could draw anyone I think I might pick Blue Jay.  There's a lot of potential for some interesting mid-transformation panels there. Plus he has really great, confident body language.  But I think every character has their own interesting nuances.  Kaleidoskop has a really nice, clean design to her.  SHELL and Arsenal both have great designs... No, I can't choose. xD

Who are your favourite HUniverse characters?

Peligroso has a certain rough charm to him. :)  But again I'm gonna cop out and say again that it's the way all the characters interact that is so appealing, rather than any one character.  Peligroso really shines when he has, for example, Wraith and Mr Imp to bounce off.

SUX[]

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hey there folks! My name is Sux and what can I really say about me…Well I’m a 27 year old guy from Texas in the US. I love listening to music (primarily metal and punk), I love reading, watching anime, playing games, drawing, writing. I’m also about to graduate from my college and I’m hoping to go and get a Masters and a PhD in History (Not sure which history but I’m leaning towards either Modern German or Texas History).

How did the HUniverse come to your attention, and how did you first get involved?

I was on The Duckwebcomics (Back when it was DrunkDuck ahh Nostalgia) when I was looking at comics to read during my spare time and I found Heroes Unite and I was “Oh cool” so I clicked on it and started reading and I got hooked by all the interesting characters and how everyone contributed. When I saw that they were making a “Spinoff” called Heroes Alliance I jumped at the chance to contribute and well here I am.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HU history and why?

I think one of the most memorable is the Heroes Divided arc. Not only is it a great arc with top notch battles and characters but it’s also a powerful “passing of the torch” and really solidified Heroes Alliance and in my view really solidified the HUniverse itself.

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

Well I have contributed quite a few characters, I think I’ll prolly spend the most of this on Peligroso. Peligroso was the first hero I came up with when I was reading Heroes Unite and he went through several origin stories. Finally I settled on biker and then the demonic slipped in and voila.

Honestly I think I have wayyyyy to many to place here but hopefully we can get to see them all soon enough (haha).

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see?

I honestly want to see a good old fashion Multiverse; I would love to see the HUniverse in different worlds or times (Noir, Super Future, Dystopian, Steampunk) When I think of all the characters in these different styles I get giddy cause they all look so cool.

What did you enjoy the most while working on HU or HA?

I really liked writing for it. Even though I’ve only gotten one thing written for HA, I really wanna work on writing more and more so I can put out some great and memorable issues.

Which HU character would you least like to be locked in a room with?

I think Imp would be my least, those puns are deadly (Haha).

Who are your favorite characters to write in the HUniverse?

I'm not too sure since I haven’t written a lot of issues but I do like writing about dark characters but I would love to write a not so serious and maybe a tad quirky character someday.

Who are your favorite characters to draw in the HUniverse?

I love drawing Peligroso but I also love drawing Relik and characters with very cool armor.

Who is/are your favorite character/s in the HUniverse?

I have way to many to count cause every single character is my favorite and it’s not a cop out when I say that cause they all are interesting and I think with a chance to be put in the spotlight, they will become even more popular.

Why did you choose your “Name”?

Well I chose SUX as kind of an in-joke on myself because at the time I couldn’t really draw that well (Still can’t but better than before) and so I thought well I might as well advertise my not goodness and just called myself SUX and it just kinda stayed that way. I was thinking of changing my name to the name I use online more often as “Death Metal Bard” but not too sure as of right now.

What is your catchphrase?

“Coffee - The single greatest good that mankind has ever made.“

Ironhand (Chris Heath)[]

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Chris and I live in England. I’ve had a passion for comics for as long as I can remember and have been making (or trying to, at least) comics since I was a kid. I consider myself more of a writer than an artist and really enjoy stretching out my creativity and pushing myself for new ideas.

How did the HUniverse come to your attention, and how did you first get involved with it?

I was pretty much there with the HUniverse from the start (aside from the behind-the-scenes creation, of course.) I was already a big fan of the Energize, Hellfire and Acrobat webcomics, so naturally I followed them when I heard they were all coming together for one big project. From that, I’ve followed it and as many HUniverse comics alongside it as I can.

The HUniverse really began growing in the community-project aspect (and the character aspect, too) during the EGO story, where many different creators all pulled together to make this big complete story. That’s where I first got involved as a contributor and ever since then I’ve contributed to the HUniverse as much as possible.

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

One thing I like about a lot of the characters of the HUniverse is that they all seem to bring an extra “corner” of the HUniverse with them. With Bombshell came political issues within the HUniverse, Fearless brought along Vampires and the strange and so on. So I kind of wanted to do something similar and cover the mystical/ninja side to the Japanese Underworld – a Japanese “Batman” to Shell’s “Superman”. I also wanted to create someone who would be like an outsider who was looking in on the HA and would actually be quite disapproving of what they do, but respect them all the same. So that’s how I created The Bujin – and along with him stemmed The Baku, Yuki Matsumuro, The Yamada and Bakuto Clans and more that have yet to be shown. What’s fascinating about The Bujin’s character is that Heroes Alliance #7 only just scratched the surface about who he really is…there’s so much more to him that’s creepy and exciting that I can’t get around to telling.

Other characters I’ve brought to the table are pretty old heroes that I’ve had in my head since I was a kid: The Flea and Beam. Beam is a key member of The New Guard and The Flea is within the HUniverse, but has been sort of lost in limbo until someone decides to scoop him up for a story.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HUniverse history and why?

I think Heroes Alliance #6 and Energize: Hunted and what happened to the status quo of the universe as a result was a big moment. The closing moments of that saga really celebrated what the HUniverse had become and also pushed it in another direction. I think being able to do something like that, especially with a community project, is something really special.

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see? The crazier and/or more epic, the better!

Okay, bear with me on this one---but some kind of “Freaky Friday” chapter where there’s body-switching between some of the members of the HA. It’s something I’ve had stuck in my head for a while just never got around to properly getting the idea down. But the image of Peligroso being in Bombshell’s body and checking himself out would be very funny to see.

What did you enjoy the most while working on HU or HA?

I’ve really enjoyed watching and taking part in the expansion of the HUniverse as well as working with so many talented creators. It really is the community spirit and the fact that everyone involved is all equally enthusiastic about the same thing that makes it something really special and enjoyable fun to work on.

On a more personal level, I think watching myself grow and improve throughout HU and HA is something that is really special to me and something I’m exceptionally proud of. I think I’ve very much grown up and improved right alongside the HUniverse and am one of the most-improved contributors, and the long-life of the HUniverse really marks that. It’s very humbling to go from my shoddy, poor 4-Page HUAdventures stories a few years back to being given the chance to write the HA Season Finale. I really can’t thank the community-nature for giving me the opportunity to grow and it’s something that is and will always be close to my heart.

Which HU character would you least like to be locked in a room with?

I imagine being stuck inside with EGO might be a little…cosy.

Who are your favorite characters to write in the HUniverse?

I’ve really enjoyed writing every character I’ve had the pleasure of using, so it’s hard to really pick one out because I like them all for different reasons.

I really like Bombshell’s unpredictability and how she’s always two steps ahead of the reader. The scene in Issue 8 where we reveal that the events of the issue have all been orchestrated by Bombshell was something I really enjoyed writing and it just came so naturally to me. I’m also a huge fan of Tazer and the whole idea of a sidekick becoming his own man and growing up – realising the world isn’t as black and white as he thought when he was younger. The guy has been doing this gig for some time now and he knows what he’s doing, so it’s cool writing him when he’s leading the team. I really like giving him silent panels, too, where we can just see that he’s thinking up a big battle plan in his head and we get to watch that unfold.

But like I said, I really do like writing them all for different reasons. It’s great to have so many characters to pick from and it’s great to push myself to write them in a way that their creators would be happy with.

Who are your favorite characters to draw in the HUniverse?

Again, there’s not one character that I don’t enjoy drawing. I love drawing them all. I think personal favourites would be a toss between Bombshell, Peligroso and Tazer. I think the three have relatively simple costumes, but there’s enough to them that makes it really fun to draw. I like drawing Shell and Relik too, because getting their costumes right from different angles always pushes me. But then I like--you know what? I’ll just leave the answer with “I like them all.”

Who is/are your favorite character/s in the HUniverse?

Bombshell and Tazer. I genuinely really like every character in HUniverse and love them for different reasons, but those two are my favourites. Mainly because I really like leaders.

CD Malcolm1[]

Tell us a little bit about yourself! (Not actually a question, but...)

Hi Peoples, the name's CD Malcolm and I'm a Jamaican/American that currently lives in Florida. My Family is from Jamaica but I was born in Brooklyn, NY.  I grew up In South Side Jamaica Queens. Moved to Long Island during my Mid Year in High School of Art And Design.

I love comics and I've been drawing since I was about 7 or 8. During Summer Vacation with my Parents, I would Draw a complete comic Issue of my characters. After the Vacations stopped, I stopped drawing my vacation comic books. Started studying Photo Shop 4.0, Illustrator 6 and at the time Page Maker, Which is called InDesign now. I Loved it. Then I got into the computer business and put my pencils down(1997)...............Ten years later, after talking to my sister about Deviantart.com, I picked up my pencil again, just to see if I still got it. I Did and It was better than I thought. 2007 is the year I started drawing again. Thank God too. I would not be doing this interview right now.

How did the HU universe come to your attention, and how did you first get involved with it?

I was drawing my Comic book Called CPU Basics on theduckwebcomic.com, (drunkduck.com), and I was asked to draw a couple of pages in Heroes Alliance Issue 7. I thought, "Really? Me? of all people?" I did not so much think that anyone was looking at my drawing.  I am sorry I can't remember who asked me. I really can not remember who, but It had to be either IronHand (Chris Heath), or Abt Nihil (Jo). I even screwed up on this first assignment. I thought I was suppose to draw 1 page, which was page 25. Then Abt Nihil told me page 24 and 25......I jump back on my computer and started right away.  I felt bad and I didn't want to lose face with someone who just asked me to draw for them.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HUniverse history and why?

That would have to be Bombshell talking Energize before....you know what happened. I love the passion Bombshell had with him. You can tell that she didn't want him to be a fugitive. At least that's what I got out of it.

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

How this came about? I got jealous, and wanted to see other artist draw one of my own characters. So I decided to make up two and use one of my own from my universe.

SolarCell (Villain turned Hero) : Currently she is NOT in the HA Universe yet, but she will get there. I did this so that it does not interfere with the Current Creators' plans for Heroes Alliance.

First off, SolarCell's real name is Ina the Faction of Indulgence. She is one of the 6 daughters of Gluttony. Her real intentions at first is to destroy the world with her sisters and father. She is very powerful by absorbing multiple levels of Light and releasing them outward as highly charges particles like the sun. As she absorb billions of photons in seconds, her body looks like she gains weight. She can control how much she absorbs and projects. Think of it like us breathing air. Only difference she can stop absorption for long periods of time. Her body weight at normal is 235lbs. She can slim down to 130 but it's like us breathing out all the air and then holding our breath. For her it is a very short time like about 4 minutes before returning to the weight of 235lbs.

Dark Beauty: Also not in the HA Universe yet, but she's coming. (Hero turned Villain)

Dark Beauty is From Jamaica. She is Immortal. Hand picked by a Demi-God to stop Gluttony and his 6 Daughters. She was killed by the God in order to grant her great powers to handle the 7 of them on her own. She heals very quickly. A few seconds after an Impact on her body in fact. She was grated the highest Immortal Seed of God. Meaning she can only be killed by the hand of God. Her power are Negative energy, and draws particles from out of existence. She controls Dark Matter (small amounts) used to counter the different power factions Gluttony has.

Perception, (Villain): This Male /Female is what you make them to be. If you believe Perception should be Male, Make them A Male. If you Believe Perception should be Female? Make them Female. The only rule is that you stick with the sex for the entire Issue you have them in. This character already exist in the HA Universe. Deceiving everyone around to get it's way. A person would look at them and if they feel that Perception is a male or a female it will be so in that person's eye. Oh but the tricks don't stop there. Perception's power is mind control on a low level. They can make you believe anything. kind of like a Jedi mind control and it stays with you so long as you believe it.

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see? The crazier and/or more epic, the better!

Hold on to your hats....I would love to see all characters as the opposite sex as a normal story (I'm secretly writing this for kicks).

Are there any characters you find challenging to draw?

Yes. The ones that I'm not fond of. Like Comet Kid. I don't like drawing him as much as I like drawing others. He is just wearing normal cloths which bores me...thats why basically all my versions of him is not that great. Sorry Comet Kid. Wish you had a suit like the others.

What did you enjoy the most while working on HU or HA?

Reading about the HA and HU Universe. Even Crossoverkill is fantastic. Getting to really know the characters helps me draw them better.

Which HU character would you least like to be locked in a room with?

Bones..........(love the character but I really hate stinky smells personally)

Who are your favorite characters to write in the Huniverse?

In this order: Azumorph, Peligroso, Solarcell, Imp, Shell, Titan, Roof Rat, Bombshell and Wireless.

Who are your favorite characters to draw in the Huniverse?

Azumorph hands down. The dudes a badass....with a kind heart. lol . Next is Shell, then Imp, Peligroso, Bombshell, anyone with a sword.

Who is/are your favorite character/s in the Huniverse?

Azumorph and of course soon to be Solarcell.

What Characters from the HA or HU universe would you like to meet?

If possible both members of Heroes United and Heroes Alliance.

Shasta B24[]

Tell us a little bit about yourself! (Not actually a question, but...)

My name is Ave and I live in Redding, California. I have a BA in English from Humboldt State University. I'm the second of four children, putting me strictly in the "middle child syndrome" area. As of this writing, I work at a call center, doing telephone surveys (I know, exciting and wonderful work that in no way will cause you to be yelled at on a constant basis, right?). My passion in life is to write, and so that's what I do. Since I also love superheroes, I realized comics were a good option and have been slowly getting myself to actually learn how to draw.

How did the HUniverse come to your attention, and how did you first get involved with it?

I think I found out about Heroes Unite by way of the Crossoverlord, but I'm not sure. In any event, it was more tangential, because while this was through the Dasien connection and Ego had already been posted, I can't remember whether I was drawn to it from that. As soon as I read it, though, I wanted to get involved, so I tried the forums, but there was no chance of getting one of my characters in. Considering the thing was already planning to come to a close, I couldn't get in as a writer. And my art... I kind of had to drag myself kicking and screaming into that aspect for anything in comics (art was assuredly a chore for me, as it had never come second nature to me and I preferred to leave it to the people who actually were skilled), so that was out of the question. But Heroes Alliance began and I saw an opportunity, writing my own (poorly done) story and then actually starting to do art (granted, my art appeared in the issue before the one I wrote, but those intro pages to that story were some of the first comic pages I'd drawn since 2006, when I had a failed other webcomic). Since then, I've tried to be involved in at least art for every story--I'm getting better at it, and greater skill means greater enjoyment and confidence.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HUniverse history and why?

Well, I'd say it's the issue I wrote, because for me personally it was actually introducing my characters to the universe, and getting deeply involved, but overall it really is Ego. That's where Heroes Unite really took hold. Not to say the previous two issues were bad, but Ego was one that felt like an event, a grand story, and it was surely fun.

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

Actually, I've created quite a few, though most have only appeared in my own comic (but are open for exploration in Heroes Alliance proper). They all stemmed from a simple idea: creating a couple transgender characters who don't pass, but not having that aspect played for laughs. And my characters are:

Sparkle - She really came about from a HeroMachine picture I did. That picture informed her powers, which are a lot like Hulk's. That informed her personality, as I kept the lessened intelligence idea, but also in the process of creating her realized that someone like her would much prefer to be girly than smash things up. Still, since I had her power tied to every emotion, I also knew that the anger could easily come to the fore, but moreso that every emotion she displayed would be more over-the-top than most characters, due to the way her power is.

Astral - He came from a companion HeroMachine picture to Sparkle. That one, though, never really inspired me as much, so in the end his power is inspired by Negative Man (I'd read Volume 2 of Doom Patrol) and a bit of Captain Marvel. I realized pretty quickly that my conceit for creating the characters would be less apparent in Astral, as he would very obviously prefer to stay in astral form, but he was the other non-passable one (and I tend to draw his physical form as such--short, curvy, big boobs). He's a superhero through and through, though, and I liked creating a character with an exaggerated Clark Kent/Superman dynamic between identities (though that wasn't intentional, I'll gladly glom onto the analogy).

The Floccinaucinihilipilification - Okay, he came to be primarily because I like the word. But it was fun to have a villain that wasn't physical. He's just a jerk with a useful power to get what he wants.

Ammon Man, Noggin, Technica, Purple Power, Locomotive, and the Herculean - All these were created for a single issue of my own comic, to fit slots in the story. Ammon Man was inspired by the area I live in (or close to it, really, as I actually don't live in this part), where almonds are a primary crop (and the people that grow them tend to call them "ammons"). Sadly, he was also doomed to die, but his power was passed on to his son, so you never know. Noggin was just my telepath for the story, but I've used him since because there's something I like about him. Maybe it's the name. Technica was there because of a need for a technopath, as well, and while I've used her again, I still don't have much to say about her. Purple Power was to be a character with a lot of power, and I do have the idea that he's cosmically powered. His personality from that issue (stoic and a bit philosophical) does make me want to use him again, but so far haven't really. Locomotive was inspired by Juggernaut (super strength and invulnerability that increases the faster she runs--I didn't realize this was like Blitz in a way, but I say Locomotive isn't that fast, but also has base-line super strength while stationary) and by design alone I want to use her again. And the Herculean, inspired by the Golden Age Superman, was created to be part of the villain's origin story, but brought back because he's intriguing to me. Plus, as an albino superhero, he fits a niche that you don't really see.

The Judge, The Hair Pair, Wheat, Barley, and Bloodblast - Various villains for various purposes. The Judge was for the story with the above six, the idea of a supervillain that thought he was helping heroes by making them overcome their greatest weaknesses or die trying. The Hair Pair is still just a concept on the boards, created for community involvement, but also because they were fun to come up with. Wheat and Barley are based off sketches my little brother did when we were little (I mentioned on the boards that it was my older brother--I was actually mistaken, and should have realized from the art quality difference between both of them) and were introduced as other-dimension invaders, that I never actually had leave the HUniverse. Bloodblast came from my first-ever Astral and Sparkle story, getting more characterization later, and is inspired a bit by the Dark Age of Comics (in the name) and the Modern Age (costume).

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see? The crazier and/or more epic, the better!

Avengers and/or JLA meet Heroes Alliance! That would actually be the primary, because it would be so fun (and if one can make it happen, I'd be sure everyone involved in the HUniverse would be overjoyed).

But I have also thought of a time travel-oriented team-up of all the Heroes Unite and Heroes Alliance characters (time travel because, well, you'd have to include Energize--even better if it's all versions) battling some great foe. Granted, it would be a heck of a thing and it would be murder to get a coherent story for it, as well as to draw it, but it's a fun thing to think about.

What did you enjoy the most while working on HU or HA?

Character interactions. I may lambast the script I wrote because it's so poorly done, but I will maintain that creating a dynamic between Imp and the Spatulator was one of the things that made that story seem worthwhile to me. Really, the two should interact more often...

Which HU character would you least like to be locked in a room with?

Well, I'll go with popular consensus and say Bones. When the flies prefer him to the rotting flesh of zombies, you know you've got to invest in nose plugs.

Who are your favorite characters to write in the HUniverse?

Mine.

But aside from that, Imp is actually quite fun. I'm quite certain that I'll be including him in a future script I write.

Who are your favorite characters to draw in the HUniverse?

That's an interesting one, because each provides its own take. Possibly Azumorph. His design is so simple, and yet you also can have him stretching into fun things (not as much as Imp, but I like to draw fast, and Imp has more going on in his design that you have to draw).

Who is/are your favorite character/s in the HUniverse?

Mine.

Okay, really, there are a lot. Each provides their own fun aspects. I love the Superman-like aspect of Energize, the Spider-Man-like quality of Acrobat, the zaniness of Imp, the Deadpool-ness of Plot Twist, etc.

Who are your least favorite characters to draw?

Bleeder. Deceptively hard to draw design there.

Why did you choose your username?

I grew up in Shasta County and went to Shasta High School, during which I came up with said username. The B24 is from a nickname my older brother and I half-heartedly tried to come up with for myself, by using a scientific calculator, switching it to letters and numbers mode (letters having their default values) and calculating the name I went by then (Abe) added with the number I wore in football (66). Sadly, I hardly ever write the username in a way that makes it come off right, and many people think it's shortened to "shastab".

On some sites, I also may go by Karabear or KarabearComics, because that's my little comic "imprint" thingamajig.

What is your catchphrase?

"Holy crimping iron." I don't know why I came up with that. I personally was thinking it would be nifty to say "Holy carp on a stick" instead, but such is as it is. Oh, that's another, I guess: when I write, I do seem to inordinately write "such is as it is".

AzuJOD[]

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Aaron, and I come from New South Wales, Australia (That’s on the east coast if you didn’t know that)

I joined The Duck back in August 2008 and have been on the site every day since then.

How did the HUniverse come to your attention, and how did you first get involved with it?

Originally I created Azumorph some years before coming to The Duck. I created this account hoping to make comics featuring Azumorph and other superheroes, but I found I lacked the skills/talent/whatever to make it happen.

Eventually I found the Heroes Unite community project, seeing it as a chance to get my characters out there. So I signed Azumorph up and the rest is history.

Tell us a bit about the characters you contributed to the HUniverse (if there are any).

As I mentioned, I created Azumorph, who seems to be fan favourite according to other people’s comments.

Azumorph is the sort of superhero I would like to be. He’s Australian, because I want there to be more Australian heroes who aren’t “Captain Stereotype.” His power is stretching/shape shifting because that’s my favourite superpower. He’s blue because that’s my favourite colour, and his name starts with the letters “Az” because I like seeing those two letters together.

Azumorph’s design comes from my own lack of art skills. His design is fairly simple and, now that I think about it, pretty easy to adapt to any art style.

I think I’ll just give some brief snippets about other characters I created.

There’s HUB, a hover-chair using double-amputee technopath. She’s pretty much the Spock to the HU Commander’s Kirk.

Then there’s Ms. Ari, whose inspiration can be summed up as “What if Cruella De Vil was a supervillain.” I have to give praise to Fukujinzuke for helping flesh out her character and giving her a design.

Kraysch is another one of mine. A hulking alien who gets stronger by feeding off other peoples hatred. The moral of his story is “don’t be a hater”.

Then there’s The Zombie Queen. There’s been plenty of other undead magic users but there hasn’t been many female ones, or ones with a voodoo theme and/or now-Caucasian background.

As for characters who haven’t appeared yet, there is JOD. Brief description of him is that he may seem like a stereotypical cartoonish supervillain, but underneath it all he could be the most dangerous person on the planet.

I’ll finish off with a mention of the Oz-Stars, a team of Australian superheroes who again aren’t “Captain Stereotype.” Rather than go through all of them, I’ll just say I’m fond of Marker, who’s basically Green Arrow with paintballs instead of arrows, and Deep Man, who’s Aquaman mixed with Swamp Thing a Cthulu.

For you personally, what's the most memorable moment in HUniverse history and why?

The image of Azumorph that was posted in the lead up to HU: EGO. It was the first time I saw someone draw one of my characters, and it made me realise that something I created is something other people want to see.

What crossover/team-up/plot point would you most like to see? The crazier and/or more epic, the better!

A crossover I would like to see is with a site called EnterVOID (http://entervoid.com/). Like us they have a shared universe which people submit characters to, but what they do is have contests where artists try to make the best comic using each others characters within a certain time limit.

I’m not saying we do that, just that it would be nice to see a crossover of two shared realities.

Who is/are your favorite character/s in the HUniverse?

Besides mine, I’d say my favourite character is SHELL. He had some great character development in his own comic.

What did you enjoy the most while working on HU or HA?

Seeing other people draw my characters.

Which HU character would you least like to be locked in a room with?

I wouldn’t like to be near anyone who calls herself Zombie Queen.

Why did you choose your username?

OK, so you probably guessed that my name is combination of Azumorph and JOD. There’s a reason for this, I had an artist at one point who was going to do the art for me. I was represented by the Azu, he was represented by the JOD. This was before I learned we could have two user account linked to one comic. But it didn’t matter anyway because he dropped out of the project and I was left with the username.

If the site allowed us to change usernames, I would change it to “Azzamacazza” It’s the name I use online for everything else. Seriously, if you Google that name and see online anywhere, there’s a good chance it’s me.
